The World Championship match is scheduled for the end of 2026. The reigning Women’s World Champion, China’s Ju Wenjun, will face the winner of the Candidates Tournament, Indian grandmaster Rameshbabu Vaishali. The venue and exact date of the match have not yet been announced.

How Have the Players Performed Against Each Other in the Past?

The two chess players have faced each other several times before, with fairly varied results. Many of their games ended in draws, but there have also been encounters in which one of the two players emerged victorious.

Ju Wenjun’s Victory

The players faced each other several times at the Norway Chess tournament in 2025. In one of the rounds, the reigning world champion secured a convincing victory. Ju Wenjun played White in this game:

As early as the 8th move, an inaccurate move by Vaishali gave her opponent an advantage, and the experienced Chinese grandmaster quickly converted it into a win. On the 19th move, the Indian player resigned, as checkmate could no longer be avoided.

Rameshbabu Vaishali's Victory

This game also took place at the Norway Chess tournament in 2025. Vaishali played White:

In this game, Ju Wenjun somewhat underestimated her opponent's attack. Instead of defending her king, she chose to attack White's pieces. However, a beautiful rook sacrifice by Vaishali on move 37 forced the Chinese player to resign.

As we can see, an intriguing and exciting battle awaits us, and either of the two players could emerge victorious.
